About the Workshop
Today's increasing pace of change, rapid communications and demands for public accountability are bringing risk management practices to the forefront in most private, public and non-government organizations. Modern governance policies and practices are being substantially updated to require explicit attention to risk as part of the corporate decision-making process. There have been few opportunities, however, for public sector managers and senior staff to advance their awareness and understanding of modern risk management concepts and tools. This course is designed to help them acquire new competencies to support modern comptrollership and governance in federal, provincial, municipal and non-governmental organizations.
Day one of the workshop explores the history, key concepts and rationale underlying modern risk management. WC's Risk Management Model is illustrated as a process for successful implementation of enterprise-wide integrated risk management framework within an organization. Several evolving Risk Management topical issues are reviewed.
Day Two examines different business decision-making scenarios and focuses on techniques for systematic risk management using simple tools, such as WC's Risk Scorecard© Toolkit. The Toolkit facilitates risk assessments at strategic, operational and project levels as well as helps identify incremental risk mitigation, risk monitoring and reporting strategies.
Participants will develop systematic risk management skills and, following the workshop, will be able to lead risk assessment groups, apply the results in their decision-making responsibilities and participate in more complex systematic risk assessment exercises.
